Web analytics is a blessing and a curse. Because while it shows me that my little experiment is not completely invisible to the world, it also shows that most who enter do not stay for long. And that’s fine. It could be that every person who has registered as a blip on my radar has stumbled in completely by accident.
But it also occurred to me that people could be visiting expecting to find pornography and then mashing the back button when they see text instead. So in the event that I am addressing one of you, hear (read) me out. I wholeheartedly believe there is infinitely more satisfaction and well-being to be found in erotica than pornography. Why?
You direct the scene.
Super-impose anyone you want over the characters in the stories. Place them any way you like, and be as overt or discrete as you dare. And because you’re doing the mental legwork (so to speak), the reward will be that much more worthwhile.
Three dimensional characters lead to tension.
A story can take the time to lay down background and a context for why the characters think and feel they way they do. If you’re willing to invest the time, it can make the tension that builds between them a thrilling experience. And if you can connect to a character, than you’ll be able to connect to their experiences—catch my drift?
Every sense is involved.
Studies show that far more women enjoy the benefits of erotic literature than men. But it’s not like there is some underlying psychological reason for this. It could just be that…perhaps they are smarter? Which means there’s no reason men can’t reap the same benefits.
Excuse me while I step off my soapbox and get back to writing. And maybe you’ll stay a while.
